The historical building was erected in 1907. It was designed by much acclaimed architect Hainrich Dunkel, one of the three main architects of Sopot, the city protected by law as an urban area of high cultural heritage values. Throughout the century the building has been much damaged and lost most of its details and visual qualities.
One part of this project was to investigate the archival documentation provided by the municipality and to commission on-site studies in order to prepare a complex renovation project. Preserving the historical elements of the building, all the interiors have been redesigned to provide a functional layouts and meet contemporary standards.
An extension to the irregular, organic form of the historical building was designed as a simple geometry, based on a regular pattern. The key point of the project was to make a clear distinction between the old and the new.
